Our 5th Annual Fundraiser sale has ended.
June 18th marked the end of our 5th annual fundraiser benefitting the Rebecca Romero Hunting Legacy Scholarship created by the University of Montana Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. Each year four scholarships are offered to out of state undergrad students at UM to fund Deep/Elk Combo Hunting licenses and General Fishing and Bird Licenses. For out of state students, these license cost about 525 dollars. Our family has committed to funding two of the four awards each year. So far, which the exception of the first cycle of this award, we have been able to do so and we will again be able to do so this next award cycle. This year we took a chance to ask some of our friends who are also into arts and have or are building up professional sales of their own to help us and we were able to bring aboard five artists who generously donated items that helped us to reach our goal again this year.
Why do we pursue this specific cause? Certain a part of it is to keep the memory of Rebecca alive in a positive way through the scholarship itself. But, as importantly, it is a way to teach others what Rebecca had learned about hunting. Like many, she had a negative outlook on hunting coming to Montana where hunting is a tremendously large part of many family histories and rights f passage. But, as she worked through her Wildlife Biology program and became acquainted with those who had hunting experience, she found that it represented a way of helping to manage wildlife so that species could be stronger through regulated management. She also learned that most hunters understood the tremendous impact of taking the life of a living creature and the need to do so through ethical and moral behaviors. We hope to continue to help in this process of education and outreach for hunters and non-hunters alike alongside the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Organization and others like the Goerz Family who facilitate the Hunter Mentorship Program in the Missoula, Montana area.
Thank you all again for helping us in this.
