At Darkhorse Art & Glassworks, we share our passion for glass through hands-on classes in Fused Glass and Lamp Work Beads. Whether you are a beginner or already have experience, you'll find a welcoming place to learn and create your own art.

Fused Glass Classes

Our Fused Glass Classes for those who want to develop an understanding of glass fusing that they can expand on in the future.

Learn safety around handling glass and the tools you will need to operate safely and enjoy creating your art!
Learn the skills and knowledge surrounding types of glass, cutting, design layout and the "6mm rule", as various ways to add detail and shape to your base glass.
Discuss kiln firing schedules and the effects on your work.

In these two hour classes you will learn the basics of fusing glass to create your own 8 x 8 inch flat mosaic glass tile, or you can create a set of four 4 x 4 inch coasters (Beginner), to learning various other ways to detail your glass and slump them into various shapes (Intermediate and Advanced)

Lamp Work Bead Classes

Our Basic Lamp Work 101 Class is also for those who want to develop an understanding of torchwork that they expand upon in the future.

Learn safety protocols surrounding workspace layout, torch operation, clothing and eyewear.
Begin developing basic skills such as prepping mandrels, pre-heating and starting your core bead.
Creating basic single color beads with a uniform shape using gravity and tools.
Use stringers and frit to add detail to your core bead.
Understand the finishing process by preventing thermal shock and the kiln annealing process.

In these 4 hour classes, learn the basics of how to create a set of 8-12 beads within a safe workspace and understand how to make your own basic round beads and add simple detail to them (Beginner). Then, further explore making your own stringers and explore using tools to create more complex beads.

Youth Classes

For our younger artists who want to have a fun glass fusing experience, we have our youth classes.

Learn safety around handling glass and the tools you will need to operate safely and enjoy creating your art!
Learn the skills and knowledge surrounding types of glass, cutting, design layout and the "6mm rule", as various ways to add detail and shape to your base glass.
Discuss kiln firing schedules and the effects on your work.

These classes are geared for students from 9 years of age and up and have a shorter time length and cover basic safety expectations for glass handling and cutting.
Students can create pendants for themselves or gifts to others or, they can create attractive suncatchers.
Students must have a parent present.

Open Studio Time

For those who have completed one of our "101" classes and who feel like they are ready to try something on (mostly) their own, we have studio time available!

Studio time allows you to come in and have table/torch space and access to all of the tools to start and/or complete a project.
Glass supplies, kiln firing, and molds for slumping are not included in the rental time.
Supervision will be part of the session, though we will often act in an advisory role in most cases.
